The Essential Facts of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two
by Karla on June 4th, 2026
As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and good luck. The goal is to move your chips carefully around the board to your inner board while at the same time your opposing player moves their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at specific instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to complete your game.
The Priming Game Plan
If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to shift their chips, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely block any movement of the opposing player by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he ever tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. After you have successfully built the prime to prevent the movement of your opponent, your competitor does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you shift your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.
The Back Game Plan
The aims of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to harm your competitor’s positions hoping to better your chances of winning, but the Back Game plan utilizes seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game plan is frequently used when you’re far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your chips and how the chips are relocated is partly the outcome of the dice toss.
