As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to shift your checkers carefully around the board to your home board while at the same time your opposition moves their checkers toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular strategies at particular instances. Here are the last two Backgammon tactics to complete your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to move her checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if she ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point two and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of your opponent, your opponent doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, and you move your checkers and roll the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game plan relies on alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is often employed when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
