The Essential Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of talent and luck. The goal is to move your chips carefully around the game board to your home board while at the same time your opposing player moves their checkers toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player pieces heading in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at particular times. Here are the last two Backgammon strategies to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Strategy
If the goal of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move their chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any movement of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a battered position if she ever tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point eleven in your game board. After you have successfully built the prime to block the activity of your competitor, your competitor does not even get a chance to roll the dice, and you move your chips and roll the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.
The Back Game Plan
The goals of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions with hope to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game technique relies on alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game tactic is often employed when you are far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
