The Essential Details of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two
by Karla on July 4th, 2023
As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to move your pieces safely around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposing direction. With opposing player pieces moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the two final Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Plan
If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift their chips, the Priming Game plan is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a damaged position if he at all tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. After you have successfully built the prime to prevent the activity of your opponent, the opponent doesn’t even get to roll the dice, that means you shift your pieces and roll the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.
The Back Game Tactic
The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to harm your opponent’s positions in hope to better your odds of winning, however the Back Game plan relies on alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is commonly used when you are far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this tactic, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are relocated is partly the result of the dice toss.
