The Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part One
by Karla on August 22nd, 2020
The objective of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the game board and get them off the game board quicker than your competitor who works harder to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a round of Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. Just how far you can shift your chips is left to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and the way you move your pieces are determined by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use differing techniques in the different stages of a match based on your positions and opponent’s.
The Running Game Technique
The goal of the Running Game tactic is to entice all your chips into your inside board and pull them off as quickly as you can. This strategy focuses on the speed of advancing your checkers with no time spent to hit or barricade your competitor’s chips. The best time to use this strategy is when you believe you can shift your own pieces faster than the opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your opponent’s checkers; or 3) the opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking technique.
The Blocking Game Tactic
The primary aim of the blocking technique, by the name, is to block the competitor’s chips, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your checkers rapidly. After you’ve established the barrier for the competitor’s movement with a couple of checkers, you can shift your other chips quickly off the board. You should also have an apparent plan when to withdraw and move the checkers that you used for the blockade. The game becomes intriguing when the opponent utilizes the same blocking strategy.
