The Essential Details of Backgammon Strategies – Part 1
by Karla on December 20th, 2018
The goal of a Backgammon game is to shift your checkers around the Backgammon board and pull those pieces off the board quicker than your challenger who works just as hard to do the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a game in Backgammon requires both strategy and luck. Just how far you can shift your pieces is up to the numbers from rolling the dice, and just how you move your chips are determined by your overall playing plans. Enthusiasts use different tactics in the differing stages of a game dependent on your positions and opponent’s.
The Running Game Plan
The goal of the Running Game plan is to bring all your checkers into your inner board and bear them off as quick as you can. This strategy focuses on the pace of moving your chips with little or no time spent to hit or stop your competitor’s pieces. The best scenario to employ this strategy is when you think you might be able to move your own pieces quicker than the opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your competitor’s pieces; or 3) the opposing player does not employ the hitting or blocking plan.
The Blocking Game Technique
The main aim of the blocking strategy, by the name, is to stop the opponent’s checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. After you have established the barrier for your opponent’s movement with a couple of chips, you can move your other checkers quickly off the board. You should also have a clear plan when to extract and shift the chips that you employed for blocking. The game becomes interesting when the opposition uses the same blocking strategy.
