The goal of a Backgammon match is to move your chips around the Backgammon board and get them from the game board faster than your opponent who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Winning a round in Backgammon requires both tactics and good luck. Just how far you can shift your pieces is up to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and just how you move your pieces are decided on by your overall playing techniques. Players use differing plans in the different stages of a match based on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Tactic

The goal of the Running Game plan is to entice all your checkers into your home board and get them off as quick as you could. This technique focuses on the pace of advancing your checkers with absolutely no time spent to hit or barricade your opponent’s chips. The best time to employ this technique is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers quicker than the opposing player does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your opponent’s pieces; or 3) your opponent does not employ the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main goal of the blocking technique, by its name, is to block your opponent’s chips, temporarily, not worrying about moving your checkers rapidly. After you’ve created the blockage for the opponent’s movement with a few pieces, you can move your other chips rapidly off the board. The player will need to also have an apparent plan when to extract and shift the chips that you used for blocking. The game gets intriguing when the opposition uses the same blocking strategy.
