The Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part 1
by Karla on January 22nd, 2016
The aim of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the game board and pull them from the board quicker than your challenger who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a round in Backgammon needsrequires both tactics and luck. Just how far you will be able to shift your chips is left to the numbers from rolling the dice, and just how you shift your checkers are determined by your overall playing plans. Players use a few plans in the different parts of a match based on your positions and opponent’s.
The Running Game Plan
The goal of the Running Game plan is to lure all your chips into your inner board and pull them off as fast as you could. This strategy concentrates on the speed of moving your chips with no time spent to hit or block your competitor’s pieces. The best time to use this tactic is when you believe you can move your own chips a lot faster than the opposing player does: when 1) you have less chips on the board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) your opposing player does not employ the hitting or blocking plan.
The Blocking Game Plan
The primary goal of the blocking strategy, by the name, is to block your opponent’s pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your chips quickly. Once you’ve established the blockade for the competitor’s movement with a few checkers, you can move your other pieces quickly from the game board. You will need to also have a clear strategy when to back off and move the pieces that you used for the blockade. The game gets interesting when your opposition uses the same blocking strategy.
